Urinary bladder of an individual has 2 important functions:
o Storage of urine
o Periodic elimination.

A child goes through series of maturational phases till he/she remains “dry by day” by the age of 3 to 3 1/2 yrs and dry by night by 7 yrs. Eneuresis inadvertent passage of urine, which is commonly seen in children only at night. This is called Nocturnal Enuresis. If the child has enuresis also in the day it is called as Diurnal Enuresis or INCONTINENCE. The latter can be caused by birth defects of structural or functional nature. Some of these are treatable surgically.
