- About the Department
We, at Jaslok Hospital, have a dedicated Department of Critical Care Medicine that manages 43 ICU beds. We have one of the most renowned critical care physician with us, who is also one of the pioneers of critical care medicine in India and has an experience of more than 40 years in the field.

There are 3 ICUs that are looked after by intensivists during daytime and there is always one on-call intensivist to attend the patients and guide the registrars—this system of on-call intensivist is one of a kind.

Medical ICU has 21 beds including two isolation beds. We receive all kinds of patients here; irrespective of their level of sickness or even if the sickness is infectious in nature, we never refuse admission.

Surgical ICU has 10 beds, where postoperative clean patients are shifted from the operation theatre and kept for treatment and monitoring. All patients who have undergone surgeries—such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), neurosurgery, clean general surgery and orthopaedic surgery—are treated at ICU postoperatively.

Our ICUs are managed by an efficacious medical team including intensivists, on-duty ICU registrar and well-trained nursing staff. On an average, a postoperative ICU stay of 2 to 4 days is needed. Once our patients are stable, they are shifted back to the wards for further treatment.

The ICU located at the 14th floor has 12 beds, with one dedicated bed for sleep study and telemetry. This is a dedicated ICU for A-class patients. There is no difference in care for the patients among all ICUs, except for the difference in the level of comfort for the relatives.
