"Maheboob M. Basade is a professor of Medical Oncology at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai. He is a full-time cancer specialist at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai. He is doing a PhD degree in the Pharmacogenomics in cancer. He is executive body member of Indian Society of Medical and Paediatric Oncology.
He joined Jaslok Hospitals in 1997 and established the best stem cell transplantation department in the hospital. Today, he is considered as one of the top oncologists in Mumbai
Apart from clinical work, I have been associated with many research projects dealing with clinical trials of new drugs, phase II / III clinical studies in cancer research as Principal Investigator.Presently, I am doing Ph.D. in Pharmacogenomics in ovarian cancer. Awarded with International Scientist’s Visiting Fellowship in Hematology / Oncology. Worked with Dr. A. T. Look in Dept. of Experimental Oncology on oncogene MYCN detection by fluorescence in situ hybridization ( FISH ). Learned DNA extraction, non-isotopic labeling of MYCN DNA probe and also analysis of DNA ploidy by flowcytometry.
Fellowship awarded by Javeri Foundation at The New York Hospital. Learnt the state-of-the art in peripheral blood stem cell transplantation and autologous bone marrow transplantation and cryopreservation, purging with Dr. Subhash C. Gulati .
I was visiting Fellow for a period at the Europe’s largest bone marrow transplantation centre. I was able to learn matched- unrelated, allogeneic and autologous bone marrow transplantation in multiple myeloma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

I am managing all Haematological malignancies and Solid tumours.
One of major area of interest and responsibility is Hematopoeitic Stem Cell Transplantation at Jaslok institute. Since I have taken the responsibility as core team member of transplant unit, more than 300 cases including auto and allogenic have been performed.
Our team has achieved successful transplants for patients of several hematological disorders like thalassemia, aplastic anemia,Sickle cell anaemia,fanconi’s anemia to malignant diseases including Leukemias, lymphomas,multiple myeloma,neuroblastoma,Germ cell tumor and sarcomas.
We have done more than 300 bone marrow transplant till date.This is done for both autologous and allogeneic ( Sibling) transplants with good success rates.Our patient survival rates are at par with the national and international centers
So far I have a been part of stem cell transplant team in more than 300 cases which include allogenic and autologous ; and more than 330 stem cell harvests initiated with different international stem cell mobilizations protocols at Jaslok Hospital .
As the transplant physician,my responsibility includes that of case selection, counseling, pre-transplant evaluation and preparation of the patient which includes appropriate mobilization, Apheresis, HDCT as well as complete post transplant care of patients of autologous and allogenic stem cell transplant."

"Since 1974, I have been involved with Medical Oncology/Hematology along with strong interaction with other clinical branches and basic scientists.
At present, my strong interest is to develop developmental therapeutics with clinical research program. This will have integrated projects involving all the branches of clinical oncology as well as potential basic research. Also, I have started biological therapeutics targeting various molecular targets on the cancer cells. I have been pioneer in establishing Bone Marrow Transplantation set up in India.
I have been involved with about 500 National and International Publications. I have played an important role in establishing D.M. Medical Oncology (Mumbai University) at Tata Memorial Hospital. I am also recognized a M.Sc. and Ph.D. Guide in Applied Biology.
From infancy, now our department has entered into modern Medical and Pediatric Oncology with full infrastructure including Bone Marrow Transplantation, Hematology Laboratory, Flow Cytometer, Cytogenetic and Molecular Laboratory. Day Care Chemotherapy Unit and Patient Counciling Groups. I have been the Chief Investigator for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Project supported by National Cancer Institute, Washington and Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia Project supported by Department of Science and Technology.
Recently I have embarked upon the project of writing syllabus along with teaching manual for DM Medical Oncology Course in association with Indian Medical and Paediatric Oncology Association."
