Neuropsychiatry Clinic

Neuropsychiatry disorders constitute the largest burden of disease in the world according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Over the past two decades research has clearly indicated an anatomical, physiological and biochemical basis for most psychiatric disorders and these are therefore treated like other non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. The Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre was the first institute in India to begin a neuropsychiatry service in 1989 and has since received numerous patients from all over India and neighbouring countries. It has resulted in several research publications and presentations in international conferences.

The clinical services carried by experts, include pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, a detailed neuropsychometric evaluation and counseling services. The department has access to advanced neuroimaging and neurophysiologic techniques: Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Single Photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Axid Tomography (CT), Brain Electrical Activity Mapping (BEAM), and Electroencephalography (EEG)
