- About the Department
Our musculoskeletal system is made up of 206 bones, 640 muscles, over 200 joints, more than 4,000 tendons, approximately 160 bursae and 900 ligaments. Our bones form the skeletal framework of our body.

Our muscles help our bones to make us sit, stand, walk and run. The bursae (fluid sacs between the muscles and bones that form in areas of friction) in our body help facilitate the various movements at the joints, minimising friction. The tendons (fibrous bands of tissue connecting muscle with bone) help transmit the force generated from the muscles to the bones during movements. The ligaments (fibrous bands of tissue connecting the bones) seal the joint space and provide passive stability.

The system as a whole gives form, stability and movement to the human body. And we, at Jaslok Hospital, are always striving to offer the most comprehensive range of musculoskeletal care to our patients through our expertise.

The Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre for Excellence in Musculoskeletal Care is designed to further our lifelong tradition of being a centre of excellence in everything we do. We have a multispecialty group of surgical, research and clinical consultants working together in an integrated setting to provide the highest quality of care to almost one million patients every year.

We offer patients the opportunity to consult with orthopaedic surgeons and rheumatologists. We also provide services such as hand surgery, sports medicine, orthopaedic oncology (specialising in limb-salvage surgery for bone and soft-tissue tumours), neurology, physical therapy, endocrinology, radiology, pain management, specialised nursing care and nutritional support, in a manner to offer highly individualised care to one and all.

We also have a centre for advanced orthopaedic surgery, joint replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, sports medicine and sports injury treatment and a comprehensive arthritis management programme. Our department is supported by the most elaborate intensive-care services, a modern Accident and Emergency Department and a state-of-the-art Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department. We have established trauma protocols for the care of the critically injured patients for the prompt and efficient treatment of accident victims.
