About the Functional Neurosurgical Program

Functional Neurosurgical Program was established in 1988

The only comprehensive Functional Neurosurgical Program in India.

The first and onlymultidisciplinary program having movement disorder specialist,pediatric neurologist, epileptologist, stroke expert and headache specialist.Further support provided by state of the art Neuroradiology and Neurophysiologyfacilities.

Postsurgical care offered by dedicated nursing staff, rehabilitation specialist and physiotherapists.

Conducting research in the field of glioma andPD surgery. Completed five research projects and two research projects areunderway.

It is the only centre that offersfellowship programin Stereotactic andFunctional neurosurgery for qualified neurosurgeons. The fellowship program hasa waiting period of more than three years.

Trained in Functional Neurosurgery from reputed centers such as the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, the Maudsley Hospital, London, Yale University, USA, Newcastle General Hospital, UK, as well as centers in France (with Prof. Benabid), Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Germany

First neurosurgeon to perform DBS surgery in India. Started DBS therapy in 1998 long before it was introduced in the USA (2002)
Largest number of DBS surgeries in India.

Only Neurosurgeon to perform DBS in patients with cardiac pacemakers
Operated on the oldest patient (82 years old) of PD in the world
